The service industry is the service industry regardless of what form it takes
Tip me if you greatly appreciate the service provided and would like to show further appreciation.
I’d rather be tipped out of genuine thanks than to have it be because of someone thinking they have to.
Servers and valets aren’t hitting me for $150 an hour though. Yes I still tip but fuck you if you seriously get offended if someone doesn’t tip when you charge those rates.
I’m a service professional and my rate for what I do is $125 an hour and I do not ever expect a tip.
For the record, your tattooer is not taking all of that $150, but point still stands.
Especially for newer artists or apprentices. Of what they charge they may keep 40% or less of that, then around 15% for taxes, then the cost of replacing the supplies they just used.
Tips are the only money that goes directly to the artist. On the average week I make more off tips than my percentage.
Same goes for your Massage Therapists and Estheticians. We usually have to buy all of our own supplies and get to take home less than half of the service price.
